can't tell me nothin' when i know i'm right

I am aware that the US is responsible for countless murders in other countries and sadly that is the greatest disappointment this country has to offer. However, that does not change the fact that there were two explosions in Boston that killed and injured many innocent people and that it feels very close to home. It is not ignorance. It is fear, fear that it can happen in my own home. I am aware of the atrocities that the US is responsible for but it still does not make any acts committed against innocent people any less atrocious. I find myself comfortable yet disturbed by the violence. Comfortable with the realities of violence because I continue on my path of educating myself about it. I do not feel a direct, physical effect and do nothing else but educate myself more of these realities. I am educated and aware but that is nothing without action, that kind of action where people do something to fight against the violence. I am here comfortable with my life waiting for violence to hit home so that I can stand up against it because I will finally be affected physically and emotionally. It is something that I am ashamed of because I am fortunate to live in the US; fortunate to not experience such violence everyday in this country. -Brenda J
